THE WORK ON OUR NEW RECORD "INTERZONA E.P. 2010" IS FINALLY COMPLETED!
We've had a pretty busy and fun year of 2009 - please check our PHOTOS page to see it for yourself. Last year was very special - INTERZONA turned 10 years old. The compilation "FLIGHT 316" featuring selected works from "Live Bullet" and ".Extremum" as well as some new songs and remixes never released before is still available at our concerts. We want to take this opportunity to thank all of our old and new friends for your continuous support!
The main achievement of the good part of the last and beginning of this year - we have finally completed our first "official" record featuring songs with English lyrics - "Interzona E.P. 2010". The album was produced by INTERZONA and MAX BENDER (a.k.a. MAD MAKS) who also did the sound. The five songs included in the record feature creative input by all current INTERZONA members - Mike Danilin, Mike Musaev, Andrew Yarygin, Jay Shepard and Rob Dova - as well as ex-INTERZONA members Serge Burzhulovsky, Oleg Ignatenko, Val Feldbaum, and Boris Zeldin. Other participants - Russian rockers from St. Petersburg Vadim Sergeev (SPLEEN) and Alexander Voronov (TEQUILAJAZZZ) - you can hear them play on the title track "Interzona". FINALLY, the E.P. was mastered at Exchange Studios, London, UK by Mike Marsh who is known to have worked with DEPECHE MODE, MASSIVE ATTACK, BJORK, BASEMENT JAXX, CUT COPY, ROYKSOPP etc. "INTERZONA E.P. 2010" is going to be available for sale on iTunes and other digital music stores very shortly. We're also going to press a limited edition to be available at our concerts.
The new RECORD PRESENTATION PARTY will take place at The Studio @ WEBSTER HALL on Sunday, February 21st. Please visit our CONCERTS page to view the details.

OCTOBER 2005:
Monday, October 31st - Halloween Art Party and INTERZONA going
away party
We would like to let all of you know that a new music entity
has appeared in New York. INTERZONA has a brother now - a band called
BIG FOOT PROJECT. It is a result of several musicians getting
together practically every week over INTERZONA bassist Oleg "Big
Foot" Ignatenko's place for free jamming. It had been going
on for over a year when we felt that this is finally taking some
shape and that it might be a good time to start performing. So we
did: BIG FOOT PROJECT has debuted on Sunday, September 25th, 2005
as an opening act for Russian blues stars CHIZH & Co at HIRO
BALLROOM, NY.
The line-up of BIG FOOT PROJECT is, as follows: Oleg "Big
Foot" Ignatenko - guitar (bass in INTERZONA), Mike Korosty
- vocal, harmonica, Mike "M.D." Danilin - keyboard
(vocal in INTERZONA), Phil Mamedyarov - bass, Serge "Bonzai"
Burzhulovsky - drums (guitar in INTERZONA), and, of course, our
irreplaceable Andrei "Shalun" Yarygin - sound engineer.
Not only we change instruments: if you can only imagine something
dirrectly opposite to INTERZONA - it's BIG FOOT PROJECT. INTERZONA
is a result of fusion of electronica with new wave and post-rock
while BIG FOOT is a punky blues resting on hip-hop dubby beats;
INTERZONA songs are solid computer-like structures while BIG FOOT
is all about free expression in a jamming manner; INTERZONA is in-your-face
drive while BIG FOOT is chill-out; INTERZONA is "serious"
while BIG FOOT is a joke... One common thing about both bands is
the energy level during the performance. And, of course, having
tons of FUN!!! (which, we hope, you do, too :)
2. INTERZONA news.
We're working on new songs and getting ready for our November
tour to Ukraine and Russia (check CONCERTS section for details).

PROJECT coming up - check back soon!

Hope everyone enjoyed the winter holiday

the cultural life of Russian (and not only Russian) New York. They have called
us “the best original rock band of 2004”. They have also called our concert with

Thank you, guys – we’ll keep it up!
As of us, we’ve spent the entire holiday

disclosed. Get ready!

2. Early this year NMC / Sony Israel has released

3. BOMBA-PITER / MANCHESTER FILES, the largest
and most respectful indie label in Russia, has released a compilation
"Hunt 11" ("Okhota 11") featuring the same song.
A possibility of ".Extremum" being
released on that label is being discussed. If it happens, the Russian-released
version will differ from the one released on NMC / Sony Israel -
there will be a bonus. Details TBA...
4. Russian Rock Club in America has released

Sorry we've been sort of "out
of touch" lately: last fall-winter has been a slow season for us. Yet, there
are certain news worth to be mentioned.
First, we're playing at China Club on April 4th as a "special guest" at
U-PITER show. In case some of you don't know, U-PITER is a new Russian rock
band consisting of Vyacheslav Butusov (ex-NAUTILUS POMPILIUS), Yuri
Kasparyan (ex-KINO), and Evgeny Kulakov. Details can be found at
http://www.metpo.com.
Second, the song "Together" from the album ".Extremum" has been included
in the "Russian Leaugue" vol.1 compilation released by NMC Music
Ltd. / Sony Music Israel. The compilation features Russian acts from all
over the world, including Ukraine, Germany, Israel, Canada, etc. We are
flattered to be the only Russian act to represent the U.S. :)
Third, this year we've turned 5 years old. On February 8th, we celebrated
this fact by playing a gig, along with our friends Jenya Gavrilets (PISCES)
and THE ORPHANS (ex-COOKY CONSPIRACY). You can view the photos from the
concert here (courtesy of the Russian Rock Club in America).
Other than that, we keep on working on the new songs some of which can
already be heard at our shows.
Stay in touch!

AUGUST 2003:
There are two recent news that need to be
announced: the good one and the bad one. Let's start with the bad one:
unfortunately, radio show "Alt-Ctrl-Del" has stopped its existence. It
happened due to certain disagreements between rbcMP3.com and "New Life
Radio". Well, what can I say? It was fun doing a show for you, people! Maybe
I'll do it again some time in future...
Now, the good news: INTERZONA has
been confirmed as a participator of the Russian Rock Festival that will take
place at infamous CBGB in October (Saturday, Oct. 11 and Sunday, Oct. 12).
Other participators: KOSHMAR & KUKU (NY), TZEFA (NY), TABLE DREAMS (NY),
BOSSA NOGA (NY), ZA (CHICAGO), CHEREDOVANIE (BOSTON), ANDREI GRIN & NE
FORMAT (CHICAGO), SOBAKI PAVLOVA (TORONTO) and more... You can get more info
at the site of Russian Rock Club in
America.
Also, there were two birthdays in our band recently: Aug. 23
- Boris "303" Zeldin and Aug. 24 - Andrei Yarygin. We went to Proforma
Resort in Upstate, NY to celebrate (thanks & respekt to Dima Strizhov - the
head of Proforma Records! Thanks to Sergei, Sasha, Yura, Julia and everybody
else who was there!!!) - we had a BLAST!!! :)))
In the meantime we
rehearse and work on new songs - get ready!
Peace!
Recorded by M.D.
SUMMER 2003:
Here are the main news of this summer: first, I (M.D.) now have my own
weekly radio show “ALT-CTRL-DEL”. It airs every Sunday at 4:00pm (Eastern
Standard Time) at “New Life Radio” (620 AM for New York and vicinity;
www.RadioRu.com for the rest of the world). This project is 100%
sponsored by rbcMP3.com (respekt!) Needless to say, it’s a music show where
I play everything – from punk to dark wave, from rock to pop, from stars to
completely obscure and underground artists – as long as it’s cool, original,
and, if I can say so, REAL. Lately, I started inviting musicians from
different bands to my show – not to interview them asking BS stereotypic
questions but to be guest DJs playing music that they like, that moves them
to play. After all, is there a better way for a musician to express himself
than through the music that he likes? Those of you that are reading it
before or on August 10 – make sure you check “ALT-CTRL-DEL” with Dima
“Chuvak” Azarov of TABLE DREAMS playing ethno-punk, experimental, hardcore, psychobilly and more, including music from the album by TABLE DREAMS that
isn’t even finished yet.
Second, INTERZONA has acquired a new member - sound engineer Andrei (he's
been sound engineering for years; he works at one of the local radio
stations but doing sound with a live band had always been his dream - now it
came true! :). We met
less than a month ago when he came to one of our practice sessions and
started twisting knobs right away. As a result, our sound really improved –
all INTERZONA guys approved him without questions. It also made life much
easier for our keyboardist and electronic wizard Boris a.k.a. 303 – he used
to do the sound playing keys at the same time which wasn’t too convenient,
and now he can finally pay more attention to his keyboards… Less than two
weeks after Andrei joined the band, we went to play in Boston and he has
done really well – everybody agreed that it wouldn't be possible to make Lynwood Bar
system sound better than he did. Besides, he’s a cool guy and a true beer
lover – we get alone perfectly :).
OK, now let’s go back it time…
In the beginning of June, we had a unique opportunity to play with one of
the true legends of Russian underground music of the 80s CENTER
(thanks to Kesha Veniaminov and Radio Extreme, Seattle who brought them to
the East Coast!). As some of you might remember, CENTER
used to be a band balancing on the most experimental edge of new wave.
Besides singing and songwriting, the leader of CENTER
Vassily Shumov was known as a producer - among other things, he produced
some of the albums of another legendary Moscow band, ZVUKI MU. In the
beginning of the 90s, he moved to the US (Los Angeles) where he switched
from music to digital art (as he says, his music is only a soundtrack to his
visuals). Still, he produced several solo albums in his studio in LA. Not
too long ago, Shumov decided to reanimate the CENTER
- now as an electronic project of himself (voice, sampler, video and audio
mixers, effects) and Fast Freddy - a well-known LA guitarist (guitar,
obviously :). Playing with them was real fun - it was probably the first time when
INTERZONA shared a stage with an electronic band. Even though Shumov has
disappointed those of his fans who expected a traditional band setup and
familiar songs, the new CENTER
performance was really interesting. Dark edgy electronica (from techno to
drum’n’bass), skillful and tasteful guitar work of Fast Freddy, Shumov’s
“anti-marketing” lyrics (it wasn’t singing, more like a spoken-word), and,
of course, the visuals by the Creator himself :). The only thing that wasn’t
too perfect about CENTER performance was the sound –
Shumov was mixing everything on-stage giving one stereo-channel to the house
engineer. As a result, vocals and guitars weren’t loud enough from time to
time… But, then, who am I to judge the Master?.. :) We did two gigs with them - one in
Boston (Saturday, June 7th, Lynwood Bar), and one in NY (Sunday, June 8th, Elbow Room). The other participators
in both shows were Bostonian CHEREDOVANIE and, of course, DJ ANDROID who
provided the best and the most experimental of his collection of dark wave,
industrial, noise, drum’n’bass, minimal, idm and goth. Both of INTERZONA
performances were good (although I personally liked the
Boston one better). Check out the CONCERTS page to see the photos from that concert
(provided by our Boston friends Misha a.k.a. “Poruchik”
and Natasha.
On June 27th, we played a gig at The Village Underground (NYC) (with MATT
SANDY BAND – another project of our drummer Jan Trojanowsky – and PS). Even
though there weren’t too many people there (thanks to the new law
prohibiting live music after 11:30pm :),
the sound was exceptionally good. We recorded the entire show and might even
release parts of that recording some time in future…
After that concert, INTERZONA decided to take a break from gigging and go to
a summer vacation enjoying ourselves and gaining inspiration (we’re still
doing it, by the way
:). The only time when we made an exception was the gig in Boston on July 26th
(how could we refuse? Mad props and respect to the entire Bostonian tusovka
– we LOVE playing for you, guys!) Very special thanks to Dimon a.k.a. Kesha
– the head of Russian Boston Rock Club who took us and SOBAKI PAVLOVA (our
new friends from
Toronto, Canada whom we shared the stage of Lynwood Bar with at this time) with the
bunch of friends to a beautiful park by the lake for BBQ, vodka and
swimming. We swam to the island in the middle of the lake and back – I’m
proud that I made it in one piece :)!
After the day at the lake there was a night of REAL ROCK at Lynwood – those
of you who were there know that it’s true. SOBAKI PAVLOVA’s performance was
very energetic, avant-guard and original – they are one of the best Russian
bands living in the West that I’ve seen so far. The level of drive and
energy that we felt during our own set was absolutely outstanding – once
again, thanks to everyone who was there! Check out the CONCERTS page to see
the photos… The day after was great, too: Andrei and I spent it with our
friends Olya, Sasha, Yonas, two Ilyushas and Allochka chilling and driving
around Boston (what a beautiful city! FINALLY we got to see it!
:).
Right now, we keep on rehearsing regularly as well as spending a lot of
spare time together taking advantage of endless summer activities. Several
new songs were written during this period of time – we’re getting ready to
perform them in public. And, finally – it looks like INTERZONA will finally go to
Russia this coming fall…
Summer isn’t over yet – enjoy it while it lasts! :)
Recorded by M.D.
JUNE 1st:
Our new site is online! Very special thanks to Jenya Spektor
of COOKY CONSPIRACY for the main site photo and Dmitri Strizhov of Proforma
Records for the original design idea!
SPRING 2003:
The spring was a really busy and exciting time for INTERZONA.
Two main news of the season: our guitarist Valentine "Val" Feldbaum
came back from Europe and re-joined the band; INTERZONA and TABLE DREAMS
(whoes music and high-energetic performance we have liked for quite a
while) have gotten together and became REAL friends! OK, now, let's take
it slow:
Val came back to New York in the beginning of February, right after we
came back from Seattle. Luckily, we didn't have anything planned for the
month, which gave us an opportunity to rehearse a lot. It was much easier
for Val than one could expect - if you can only imagine it, he still remembered
all of his parts (he took his guitar to London and practiced there regularly
playing along the CD! Now, that's what I call real dedication! :). On
March 9th, we had a gig at Desmond's Tavern - a small Irish pub in the
middle of Manhattan's business district (Park Ave South, btw. 29th and
30th Streets). Despite the size, the club has everything that's needed
for a live performance, including very good vibe (thanks to the sound
engineer and promoter Pasha Antonov and our friend DJ Android :). We enjoyed
playing there a lot. On March 15th, we played in Boston, at "Spring
2003" festival which took place in one of the best Cambridge clubs
Middle East. There were five participators: Tzefa (NY), Koshmar &
KuKu (NY), Cheredovanie (Boston), Taylor Street (Boston), and us. Once
again, we enjoyed the hospitality of Bostonian "tusovka" - you
are the best! It's always a pleasure to play for you, guys! On March 22nd,
we played at Sidewalk Cafe, in support of an art exhibit of our friend
and long-standing fan Artem Mirolevich. Right after the concert, we went
to a spontaneous after-party which took place at Dima Azarov's place (Dima
"Chuvak" Azarov - lead-vocalist, songwriter and bassist of TABLE
DREAMS). We drank a lot and talked a lot, and, as they say, "found
out that we had a lot in common" :). Well, in this case this is not
a cliche: despite our style differences, there's some sort of closeness
which is not easily expressable with words. I think, that's what is called
"being real"... Anyways, we were glad to make new friends. Of
course, the next logical step would be playing together, which we did
at Brooklyn's Hank's Saloon on April 24th. The place was small, the sound
was nasty, the equipment was almost obsolete... But we still enjoyed each
other's company and did the best given the circumstances, so it turned
out a nice evening. After the party, Chuvak, Vinny (Vadim "Vinny"
Budin - guitarist of TABLE DREAMS), Igor (Ripple Road, ex-Waterwalls)
and the entire INTERZONA went to our studios (M.D.'s place) to celebrate...
On May 4th, we played at "Rock May" festival at CBGB. Other
participators were Table Dreams, Cooky Conspiracy and Alex Metalex. It
was one of our best performances so far - enough said :). VERY SPECIAL
THANKS to the organizers (Russian Rock Club in America) and everyone who
was there!.. On May 21st we played at Kenny's Castaways - that was the
last time we participated in such "showcase sessions": you wait
for two hours to play half a set! However, we would like to thank everyone
who shared this nonsense with us and waited for us to play... On May 24th,
we had our TOGETHER party with TABLE DREAMS and DJ ANDROID. Unfortunatelly,
we had to play that gig without a drummer (Jan couldn't make it), but
we did fine stressing more on our electronic side. As of TABLE DREAMS
- they simply ROCKED the house! In my opinion, that was their best gig
so far. DJ Android was as good as ever... On May 29th, we had a "fun"
experience playing at the Russian restaurant Atlantis (Staten Island).
The funniest part was before the show even started, when the owner said
that he's concerned with us using the main PA. Burzhui told him that we
would not make it too loud, but the owner said: "no, I KNOW it's
not going to work out, you can't play on low volume, you're Interzona!"
So, we finally found out that we had a reputation of one of the loudest
bands... :)))
That was how we ended the spring rocking season. Overall, it was a real
fun spring. The main part of it is that we've made a lot of new friends:
in Boston - Ilya (Izolyator), Sasha (Izolyator), Olya, Allochka, and,
of course, Dimon a.k.a. Kesha - long live Russian Boston Rock Club! In
NY - Chuvak and Vinny (TABLE DREAMS), Lina, Alyona, Galochka, Pasha Antonov...
I apologize to everyone that I missed - the list would be too long :).
The most memorable entertainment events of the season were "Matrix:
Reloaded" and COVENANT gig at B.B.King's.
Get ready for the summer!

WINTER 2002-2003:
The end of 2002 - beginning of 2003 has been a busy time
for INTERZONA. We played at Linwood Bar in Boston on December 21st (in
a great company of Cheredovanie (Boston) and an acoustic version of Mirumir!
(Portland, Oregon)). We loved it there - people in Boston seem to appreciate
music much more than the spoiled New York audience (not that we don't
like playing in NY :).
On December 29th we finally got to play at the legendary CBGB in NYC (accompanied
by New York's Tzefa and Ripple Road). That felt great - to be up on the
very stage where once were Police, Talking Heads, David Bowie and so many,
many, many others…There's a very special kind of energy accumulated
there - no other venue can compare to it.
Then there was a New Year's Eve. Burzhui, 303 and Petrovich have spent
that night with their romantic ones while confirmed bachelors M.D. and
Jan went to a concert of St.Petersburg dub/reggae band Caribace. We were
drinking champagne right from the bottle listening to the screams and
shouts "Happy New Year!" mixed with "Jah Rastafara!"
while moving to the rocking beats and the baselines that were tearing
the place apart… As they say, you'll live the new year the way you
celebrated the eve. Well, that means that Jah will be with us for the
rest of the year, as He's definitely with us now! :
At the end of January we went back to Boston where we played at a weekly
"Propaganda" party at Zuzu Lounge on January 25th. Once again,
we enjoyed Boston hospitality making new friends and having loads of fun.
Much respect to the head of Boston Rock Club Dimon, Allochka, Izolyator
and all the others!
We came back to New York on Monday, had two days to relax and take a
deep breath, and were on our way to JFK Airport on Thursday night heading
West.
The West Coast trip was amazing - thanks to Seattle promoter Kesha and
our friends Mirumir! We played at a dark wave party at Back Room in Portland,
Oregon on December 31st and shared a company with Mirumir playing at Contour
in Seattle on February 1st. We fell in love with this city - it is beautiful
and it has the most unique atmosphere. Also, the weather was really warm
and we took the full advantage of it spending the last two days walking
on Seattle streets taking pictures and enjoying ourselves.
Now we're back in New York rehearsing and working on new material. It
looks like after the slow and snowy February we're going to have a busy
March - we're planning to have two concerts in New York (March 9th and
March 22nd) and one in Boston (March 15th). As soon as the details on
these shows are clear, we're going to post them in our GIGS section, so
stay in touch!
